Mobile Friendly Website & Google Search Results

Google has updated its search algorithms to favour websites that work well on mobile devices when searching from your mobile.

Sections of sites owned by the European Union, the BBC and Wikipedia currently fail the search giant's Mobile Friendly Test developer tool.

"Mobile friendliness" will affect how prominently websites appear in Google search results pages from 21 April (when searches are performed & viewed on mobile devices).

Criteria includes text size, the amount of space between links and whether the content fits across a mobile screen.

A Google representative said mobile friendliness was "one of many" factors used by the search engine to rank results, but in a blog post the company said it would have "a significant impact" on search results.

"As people increasingly search on their mobile devices, we want to make sure they can find content that's not only relevant and timely, but also easy to read and interact with on smaller mobile screens," the representative said.

Previously desktop was the only way to view a website, now we are seeing customer get 30-40% of their traffic from mobile devices and tablets.

Easitill now offer two options for customer who want to commission a mobile version of the existing Easitill Ecommerce website they may have been running for some years.

Option one:
A mobile friendly app style website. This is where the site detects if someone is browsing on a mobile device and serves them a specifically built site that looks a bit like a purpose built app. It is made to be more paired down to speed up loading and not use too much data connectivity. Option two:
A responsive website. This is where the website is still the main site but is made to adapt to the size of the device it is being viewed on. The graphics and styling can remain very similar/if not the same just scalable to small width devices.
